C&S Collectables Direct – Serving Wade Collectors Worldwide Since 1992 – 30 Years of Wadeing

In a few months time it will be thirty years since we first approached Wade to produce a collectable range of figurines. We already had knowledge of the Wade collectors market being collectors ourselves, and decided to make the step into producing our own range of Wade collectables. So in early 1992 we made the trip from the south coast of England to Wade Ceramics in Burslem, Stoke on Trent. To us it seemed another world when we first arrived in Stoke.

Wade Ireland - The Early Years by David Chown

I wonder how many Wade collectors there are world wide? The Wade Collectors Club have around 5000 members but there are a significant number more who are not affiliated to any organization but do still collect Wade. They can be seen ferreting out pieces at car boot sales, flee markets, collector’s fairs and the like.

Wade Whimsies - A Short History

By David Chown

Everyone knows whimsies, they may not always know Wade but they usually know whimsies, those small porcelain figures of animals, birds, mammals, reptiles etc. which fell from christmas crackers or were given away with tea and toothpaste and were as popular with children in their heyday as Pokemon or Star Wars are today . They were sold in most tobacconists and newsagents in colourful little boxes for around 15 pence each from the mid fifties to the mid eighties.

During the late 1950′s, the highly prestigious Hagen-Renaker Pottery of San Dimas, California, produced the most stunning plaques and wall hanging figures which covered a variety of subjects from butterflies, horses, fish and a bison to still life. All were produced in the usual Hagen-Renaker earthenware.

The Wade Hagen-Renaker Connection
