Rain causes havoc at the Collectors Meet!!!

Well, what can we say!!

In the 11 year history of the Collectors Meet, 2007 was the first time that we have been washed out by the rain!

The UK had been plagued by rain in the weeks prior to the Meet, and the days prior to the show, the rain seemed heavier than ever.

The Saturday open day at C&S was well attended, as everyone put on their rain coats and braved the weather, the Town Mouse and Jet Set Gingie were very popular.

The hospitality event, which was relocated to the Official Wade Collectors Centre (C&S) was ‘interesting’, the rain hadn’t stopped all day, but that didn’t dampen the spirit of those who attended, with a fun quiz, a delicious buffet and BBQ along with raffles, prizes and of course, a game of bingo, it was a fun night.  To top it off, we also had a proposal,  Keith Percival from Runcorn, proposed to Janice Weaver at the end of the night, who immediately said ‘YES’ so the weekend was even more special for them, Congratulations!

At 10pm Saturday night, following an inspection of the field, the unfortunate decision had to be made, that the field was unusable, in places it was inches deep in water and extremely muddy. So, plan B came into action.

All the dealers were contacted, and were all offered a smaller (and cosier) spot in the small marquee that was by the side of the Official Wade Collectors Centre, so the job of making signs to advise visitors of the new location came into force, and signs were put up around Arundel.

Given the circumstances, the event was still successful, yes the marquee was a little small, but it was a lot better than nothing, and all the visitors still managed to enjoy the day, despite the good old English weather!  Prizes were still won in the bran tub, the Arundel Dove flew back home with most collectors, and Betty Boop also went home with most visitors. The dealers reported good trade, as collectors managed to find some missing pieces to their collections.

A big sigh of relief was given at the end of the day, and thoughts already given to next years event!
